What is the notification that stays on while spoofing is active?
It is Android's mandatory background service notification. Without it, the system stops spoofing within minutes of minimizing the app — you cannot remove the notification and keep spoofing.
It cannot be removed, and this is a limitation of Android itself, not the app's decision. Since Android 8, a background service that runs permanently must show a notification — without it, the system will not let the service exist and closes it within seconds.
So the choice here is not between “a notification” and “no notification” but between “a notification and working spoofing” and “no notification and no spoofing”. Any app that keeps spoofing running in the background shows such a notification — otherwise it would not keep it running at all.
It also has real practical value: it is the only reliable indicator that the background service is alive. Skins like MIUI, HyperOS and One UI close background processes at their own discretion, and the notification disappears exactly when that happens. So checking “is spoofing still on” comes down to one glance at the shade — no need to open another map and compare the point.
What you can do with the notification: make it less prominent. In Android settings open “Apps” → Mock Location → “Notifications” and move the notification channel to a low-importance category. It will stop taking space at the top of the shade and move to the “Silent” section, but it stays in the system — which means the service keeps running.
Do not turn the notification channel off completely: on some skins this makes the system close the service at the first opportunity, and spoofing starts dropping for no visible reason. If you have already turned notifications off and run into this, turn them back on and check the other background settings covered in the article about spoofing that stops in the background.
