Following turns off as soon as you move the map with your finger — this is deliberate, so the camera does not “take” the map away from you. Tap the current location button, and following turns back on.
Only dragging the map with one finger turns following off. Pinch zoom, rotating and tilting the map do not reset it: changing the zoom while keeping track of the marker is a normal scenario and there is no reason to interrupt it.
If you move the map while the camera is still flying to a new point, the flight stops immediately — otherwise the map would return against your gesture.
While spoofing is active, following is off: the map shows the point you chose, and there is no real movement to follow in this mode.
