No. Location spoofing works without signing in. An account is only needed to sync favorites and history between the phone and the website, and for Premium.
Without signing in, all places are stored locally on the device and are not sent anywhere. This is a full mode of operation, not a trial.
Signing in makes sense if you have several devices, if you want to edit your list of places from a computer, or if you need Premium — the subscription is tied to the account, not to the phone.
